Trafficking
Trafficking info:
- More children, women, and men are held in slavery right now than over the course of the entire trans-Atlantic slave trade. Estimates are 27 million.
- Nearly 2 million children are exploited each year in the commercial sex industry
- Human trafficking generates a staggering $32 BILLION dollars world wide – it has now surpassed guns, and is 2nd only to drugs in revenue produced
“We’ve discovered that slave masters and traffickers expect their opponents to show up late and quit early – and they are simply not intimidated. What they do not expect is fearless, sacrificial love that does not go away.” (Gary Haugen, International Justice Mission)
Locally
Trafficking is not just a global issue. Unfortunately at any given time, there are 300 to 500 juvenile prostitutes — most of them girls ages 11 to 17 — in King County, mostly in Seattle and cities to the south. Seatac was named as the ‘3rd best place, nationwide, to have sex with a minor’ by a website for men looking for underage girls. Fortunately, Seattle and neighboring cities are also among the most proactive in the nation. Many good things are happening, and we invite you to join us as we work together with other groups fighting to change the laws, to protect the victim and prosecute the pimp. As International Justice Mission (IJM) says, “We want to change the fear equation.”
